Will it fit my car?

Will a rooftop tent fit my car?

Honest answer: that depends on your car, and we don't make promises per model. Do the roof load check: it gives an estimate per vehicle, without guarantee. The maximum roof load in your owner's manual always takes precedence.

What is the difference between dynamic and static roof load?

Dynamic roof load is what your roof can handle while driving. The weight of the tent plus roof racks has to stay below it: Dune 60.5 kg, Oasis 66 kg, Savannah 74 kg, plus usually 5 to 8 kg of racks. Static roof load applies when the car is parked and is much higher. That is why the sleepers don't count. The full explanation is in our roof load article.

Which roof racks do I need?

Roof racks are up to you, they differ per car. With the result of the roof load check, we can tell you exactly which ones you need. Feel free to send a screenshot of your result.

Setup and use

How fast is the tent up?

Hardshell: set up in about a minute. Clamps off, shell pops open, bed ready. No poles, no half hour of fiddling. Folding it down is just as quick.

Can I close the tent when it's wet?

For the drive home: yes. Do let it dry open at the first opportunity, or you will eventually get mould and musty air. That goes for every rooftop tent, ours included.

Can my bedding stay in the tent?

Thin bedding and a sleeping bag usually fit fine with the tent closed. If you go for a mattress topper plus a thick duvet, it gets tight. If you pick up the tent from us, you can simply test it.

How do I get 60 to 74 kilos onto my roof?

With two people and no rush. Think of it as your warm-up. If you collect the tent from us in Hoogwoud, we help with lifting and mounting, and we fit stronger bolts than the ones supplied as standard.

Sleeping and comfort

Which rooftop tent suits me?

In short: for two with a lighter roof, pick the Dune (60.5 kg). Want a side opening and the most interior space: Oasis (66 kg, 2 to 3 people). Want the tallest interior (148 cm): Savannah (74 kg, 2 to 3 people). All the numbers side by side are on the comparison page.

What about mattresses and toppers?

The Oasis has a 198 × 137 × 4 cm cloud foam mattress, the Savannah 199 × 130 × 5 cm. Want extra comfort: there are 6 cm mattress toppers for the Dune (198 × 118 cm, €115) and the Oasis (198 × 145 cm, €125, fits the Oasis only). There is no topper for the Savannah: that mattress is 130 cm wide, a common size.

Is the tent waterproof and storm-proof?

The Oasis and the Savannah are waterproof up to a 5,000 mm water column. And we dragged these tents through Mauritania and the Sahara ourselves for five weeks, sandstorm nights included. What survives there will survive a Dutch summer too.

Buying, delivery and pickup

What is the delivery time and what does shipping cost?

Delivery time is 3 to 5 working days, with DHL. We deliberately offer no express shipping: we prefer a delivery time we always keep. Within the Netherlands, shipping is free from €250 order total; all other rates are shown at checkout, before you pay.

Can I see the tent in real life first, or pick it up?

Yes. Pickup and a test lie-down are possible in Hoogwoud (Gouwe 15), by appointment. We then help with mounting for free, so you drive off with the tent on the roof instead of in the boot. Message us for an appointment: +31 6 28075883.

Can I rent before I buy?

Yes, and we even recommend it to doubters. If you like it, we deduct (part of) the rent from your purchase. Everything is on the rental page.

Can I return my order?

Within 30 days of delivery: new, unused and in the original packaging. The refund follows quickly after we receive it. Returning a rooftop tent is a bit of a job, so message us: we will arrange the transport together. See returns and exchanges.

How much warranty do I get?

2 years of warranty on everything we sell. Something broken or damaged? Send a photo via WhatsApp or email and we will sort it out. See the warranty page.

I ordered via Decathlon. Who do I contact?

Returns and questions about your order then go through your Decathlon account. For product questions, you are welcome to contact us directly.

Are there discounts or promotions?

We don't do fake discounts or never-ending sales. If there really is a promotion, you will simply see it on the site.

Are there reviews yet?

Yes, on the product pages. Not hundreds yet, but real ones, from customers who have actually been out with them.
