Mauritania: Just go.

When you cross the border from Morocco into Mauritania, you immediately notice it: the asphalt stops, the guides are ready, and the real adventure begins. No campsites, no showers, just the desert. We wanted to go to Chinguetti, straight through the sand, and we knew it would be a wild trip.

Force 8 winds and heaps of sand

"The Sahara is beautiful, but it can also be quite fierce. We've had nights with force 8 winds where the car was shaking, and even snow in Morocco! That's when you're really glad for that hardshell from LCM. While the world outside was consumed by a sandstorm, we were in a clean bed within a minute. Clamps loose, tent up, and dive in. No flapping canvas, no hassle with poles bending in the wind.

Perhaps the biggest thing was the dust. In Mauritania, that 'fesh-fesh' sand is literally everywhere, except in our tent. Those rubber edges did exactly what they were supposed to do: the mattress stayed sand-free. That's real luxury when you've been driving through dust all day."

Our highlights:

• Camping by the Iron Ore train: You're in your rooftop tent, and then that kilometer-long train rumbles past in pitch black. You'll never forget that.

• The White Canyon: Waking up, unzipping, and seeing nothing but white dunes as far as the horizon. Coffee in hand, enjoying the silence.

• No fuss: After 10 hours of driving through soft sand, you're exhausted. You don't want to spend another half hour fumbling with your tent. For us, camp was set up within 60 seconds.

Why this rooftop tent?

"We often get asked: why a hardshell from LCM? Simple. It just works. Whether it's 45 degrees or a stormy night on the coast, that tent doesn't flinch. For us, it has become our permanent little home on wheels. Mauritania really put the tent through its paces, but it didn't give an inch."
